CustomFigura

by zqicev

CustomFigura is a Fabric client fork of Figura that points avatar loading at a self-hosted backend instead of the Figura cloud.

FabricClient-side onlyPolyForm Noncommercial License 1.0.01.21 – 1.21.11

What it does

Figura avatars normally load through the Figura cloud. CustomFigura redirects that traffic to a backend the server owner runs, which makes it usable on servers where the official backend cannot be reached, including offline-mode servers. The backend talks to clients over a plain websocket server with TLS, so it can sit behind shared hosting. Players on a supported server see one another's avatars once the FiguraBackend plugin is installed on that server.

Setup needs Minecraft 1.21.1 with Fabric Loader and Fabric API, with the CustomFigura jar placed in the mods folder. In the Figura settings, the backend address is set to the server's host and port. Clients authenticate with a one-time token issued by the server plugin, and the Mojang handshake is used for accounts. Offline UUIDs are supported, and players with version 3 UUIDs are visible to others. Mojang authentication through Ely.By with authlib-injector is also covered by the backend.

Key features

  1. Self-hosted avatar backend

Avatar data is served from a backend the server owner runs, not from the Figura cloud.

  2. Offline-mode support

Offline UUIDs work, so servers that cannot use the official backend can still show avatars.

  3. One-time token login

Clients authenticate with a one-time token issued by the FiguraBackend server plugin.

  4. Plain websocket transport

The backend uses a plain websocket server with TLS, which suits shared hosting setups.

Use cases

Offline-mode servers

A server that runs in offline mode can host its own avatar backend, so players there still see avatars.

Private communities

A community that wants avatar sharing without relying on the Figura cloud can keep all data on its own machine.

Who it’s for: Server owners who run offline-mode or private servers and want to host the avatar backend themselves, and players who join those servers.
