Custom Records

by Derekahedron

Custom Records lets a data pack define music discs that play custom sounds, so a world can use its own records alongside the vanilla ones.

What it does

Custom Records adds the ability to create data-driven music discs and other sound-related items. Using it requires a data pack setup: the mod does not ship finished discs, and the example resource and data pack shows how the files are arranged. Sound effect buttons take on any vanilla dye color.

Both the server and every player need the mod, since the discs and their sounds are sent across the connection. Forge is the only loader with files, and they target 1.20.1 alone. The code is open source under the MIT License, and the latest Forge file is 1.5.2 for 1.20.1.

Key features

  1. Data-driven music discs

Discs are defined through data files, so a pack can register new records without changing code.

  2. Golden record copies

A golden record can be copied with a Blank Silver Record to produce a Silver Record, while Silver Records themselves cannot be copied.

  3. Dyed sound buttons

Sound effect buttons come in every vanilla dye color, so they fit into existing builds.

What the author says

An example resource/data pack for this can be found here: Resource Pack Example If you want to share the golden record, you can use a "Blank Silver Record" to make a copy, which produces a Silver Record. Silver Records cannot be copied, and Blank Silver Records must be added to loot tables manually.
