Custom Crosshair

by realRobotix

With Custom Crosshair, a Forge client mod for Minecraft 1.8.9, the crosshair in the middle of the screen can be reshaped and recolored.

ForgeClient-side onlyGNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 or laterOpen source1.8.9

What it does

The mod replaces the default crosshair with a configurable one. Players set the size and spacing of its top, bottom, left and right arms through the X Radius and Y Radius options, and pick a single color or an RRGGBB chroma rainbow. The Default Color, Player Color, Hostile Color and Friendly Color settings let the crosshair change tint depending on what it points at.

A separate Dynamic Bow option changes the crosshair while a bow is drawn, and the Dynamic Bow Multiplier sets how strongly it reacts. The mod is aimed at players who want a crosshair that fits their own style of play in single-player or on a server. It is distributed for Forge only, with one build covering 1.8.9, and it runs on the client alone. The server does not need it, and players can join without installing anything.

Key features

  1. Adjustable arm spacing

X Radius and Y Radius set how far the crosshair arms sit from the center of the screen.

  2. Entity-based colors

Player, hostile and friendly targets each get their own crosshair color, which can be set separately.

  3. Chroma rainbow mode

An RRGGBB chroma rainbow option cycles the crosshair through colors instead of holding one tint.

  4. Dynamic bow feedback

The crosshair reacts to the draw of a bow, with a multiplier that controls how far it moves.

How it compares

Full comparison

DebugCrosshair is a Forge mod for 1.8.9 that is also client-side only and open source, released into the public domain under The Unlicense, but it is a debugging overlay rather than a crosshair customizer. Entity Crosshair is client-side only and open source under the GNU General Public License v3.0 or later, with builds for Fabric, Forge and Ornithe across 1.8.9 – 26.3, so it covers more loaders and versions than this mod. MultiCrosshair is Forge-only for 1.20.1 and is not open source under All rights reserved, and it runs on client and server.
