Custom World Border
by Jodek
Custom World Border lets a server owner set the size of the world border, and whether it stays fixed, expands or shrinks over time, through a data pack.
What it does
The mod ships as a data pack that adds commands for a custom border: a chosen size, a static border that does not change, an expanding border that grows by one block every set number of seconds, and a shrinking border that contracts on the same schedule. Single-player players can apply the same setup when they create a new world, by adding the data pack on the confirmation screen before the world loads.
The mod is built for servers and adventure or minigame maps, where a border that changes over time can set the pace of play. Only the server has to run the data pack, while players may join without installing anything. Installation needs Fabric, Forge, NeoForge or Quilt, and files are published for 1.21 – 1.21.4 with 1.0.2+mod for 1.21.4 as the latest file. The mod is released under the MIT License and is not open source.
Key features
Static border
A border can be set to a fixed size that does not change while the world runs.
Expanding border
The border grows by one block every set number of seconds, with the interval chosen by the operator.
Shrinking border
The border contracts by one block at a set interval, which suits timed endgame or minigame rounds.
Custom size
The starting size of the border can be chosen instead of the default world border.
Compatibility
Latest build for each game version and loader.
Only full game releases are shown. This mod publishes no snapshot builds.
Use cases
Minigame rounds
A round can start with a wide border that shrinks on a schedule, pushing the players toward each other.
Single-player worlds
Cheats or admin commands can be enabled after a world is created, and the data pack can be added at creation time.
Who it’s for: Server owners and adventure map builders who want a border that holds still, grows or shrinks by a set rate, with the size chosen in advance.
How it compares
In borders is a Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt server mod for 1.21.6 – 26.3 under All rights reserved, and it is not open source. Level = Border covers 1.19.2 – 26.3 on the same four loaders under a custom license. Expansion of Border is server-side and MIT licensed for 1.20.2 – 26.3, so it does not target the 1.21 – 1.21.4 range this data pack covers.
