Custom Better Beacon

by Monte_Carlo_Simulations

Custom Better Beacon is a server-side Magic mod that lets a server owner reshape beacons with configurable ranges, pyramid types and beam hiding.

FabricForgeNeoForgeServer-side onlyApache License 2.0Open source1.20.1 – 26.2

What it does

Beacon effects reach players by chunk radius rather than block distance. Covering 3x3, 5x5 or 7x7 chunks is supported, and larger values can be set for very large bases. Effects stay active even after the beacon's chunk unloads, so a remote base keeps working in survival.

Pyramids can be built as in vanilla, and the mod can also add new pyramid types that change beacon strength. A wool carpet placed on top of a beacon hides its beam while keeping the effects. Settings can be changed in-game with Level 2 OP permission, and updates apply at once, with visual changes synced to clients.

The mod is server-side only, so players connect without installing anything and vanilla clients work normally. It is open source under the Apache License 2.0 and is published for Fabric, Forge and NeoForge, with files covering 1.20.1 – 26.2 and the latest Fabric and NeoForge builds for 26.2.

Key features

  1. Chunk-based ranges

Beacon range is measured in chunks, with options for 3x3, 5x5 and 7x7 areas and custom radii for very large bases.

  2. Effects through unloaded chunks

Beacon effects persist even when the beacon's own chunk is unloaded, so distant bases keep their buffs.

  3. Carpet beam hiding

Placing a wool carpet on top of a beacon hides its beam without removing the effects.

  4. In-game configuration

Beacon settings can be changed in the game, and changes apply immediately with synced visuals.

Use cases

Large survival bases

Players spread across a big area can run one beacon that covers the whole base through loaded and unloaded chunks.

Server hubs

Server owners can give a hub wider beacon coverage and tune strength through the in-game settings.

Who it’s for: Server owners who want beacon ranges measured in chunks and players who build large bases with beacons.

What the author says

A powerful, flexible overhaul for Minecraft beacons. Better Beacons makes beacons more useful by giving them massive, chunk based ranges and letting you use almost any block as a base. Effects stick with you even if the beacon unloads, making it the perfect tool for large bases and survival projects.
