Combat Control

by LCLPYT

Combat Control lets a server bring back classic combat behaviour, such as the absence of attack cooldown, through a set of individually tunable knockback and sword rules.

FabricServer required, client optionalMozilla Public License 2.0Open source1.21.4 – 26.3

What it does

The mod changes melee and projectile mechanics so that a server can revert to older combat rules. Attack cooldown can be removed, sword blocking can be reintroduced with a vanilla-compatible approach, and block-hitting with swords is supported. Axes and other tools can deal less damage, and food can again regenerate health quickly. Snowballs and fishing rods can inflict knockback, and several knockback variants are offered, including one that adjusts knockback to the player's network latency.

Settings can be applied globally with a preset style, such as a classic style that disables attack cooldown and reverts the food regeneration system, or configured individually for each player. Some options, such as modern damage values, only work when set globally. Server owners install Combat Control on the server; players can adjust their own options through Mod Menu when it is present. Required dependencies are Cloth Config API and Fabric API. Combat Control is for Fabric only and targets 1.21.4 – 26.3, with the latest file, 1.14.0+26.3, published for 26.3 on 2026-09-15. The server requires the mod, and the client may add it. The mod is open source under the Mozilla Public License 2.0.

Key features

  1. Attack cooldown removal

Attack cooldown can be removed, so repeated hits land at the older rate.

  2. Sword blocking and block-hitting

Sword blocking is reintroduced, with a blocking animation partly ported from an earlier approach, and swords support block-hitting.

  3. Knockback variants

Several knockback variants, including one that adapts to network latency, can be chosen for melee hits, snowballs and fishing rods.

  4. Preset and per-player settings

A classic preset applies several changes at once, and selected options can be configured for each player instead of globally.

Questions

Does Combat Control need Fabric API?

Yes. Cloth Config API and Fabric API are both required dependencies, and Mod Menu is optional.

Does every player have to install Combat Control?

No. The server requires the mod, while the client may add it to adjust options. Players can join without installing it.

Why do some settings not apply per player?

Options such as modern damage values work only when set globally, so they cannot be configured individually for each player.

What the author says

All features of this mod can be configured individually, on a per-player basis. You can have some players using attack cooldown while others don't. The mod is only required on the server, but having the mod installed on your client makes the experience better.
