CobblemonChunkmenager

by MarcoErCarrozza

CobblemonChunkmenager limits how many wild Pokemon spawn in each loaded chunk, so Cobblemon worlds lag less on busy servers.

What it does

The Fabric and NeoForge mod runs on the server only, so players join without installing anything. It is built to work alongside Cobblemon on Minecraft 1.21.1. Each loaded chunk has a Pokemon budget, 16 by default, and spawns above that budget are blocked before the entities are created. Blocking creation at the start is the main way it cuts the total entity count.

The mod keeps track of each loaded chunk by sorting it into one of three levels: HOT for chunks with players or active battles, WARM for moderate activity, and COLD for empty or idle chunks. It scans 50 chunks every 5 seconds. Every 10 seconds it finds chunks that are over budget and handles the excess wild Pokemon, first moving them to nearby chunks with free space and despawning any that cannot be relocated. Pokemon in battle and owned Pokemon are never touched.

Vanilla AI pathfinding and movement goals are disabled for Pokemon in COLD chunks, and the heat level only updates when a chunk changes state, so the per-tick cost stays near zero. The mod is released under the MIT License and is not open source.

Key features

  1. Spawn prevention

Cobblemon's spawn event is cancelled for chunks that already hold their full budget of wild Pokemon.

  2. Chunk heat tracking

Each loaded chunk is classified as HOT, WARM or COLD from its players, battles and recent activity.

  3. Migrate before despawn

Excess wild Pokemon are moved to nearby chunks with free space first, and removed only when no place is found.

  4. AI throttling in cold chunks

Vanilla movement and pathfinding goals are turned off for Pokemon in idle chunks to save work.

Use cases

Who it’s for: Server owners running Cobblemon on Minecraft 1.21.1 with Fabric or NeoForge, who want fewer entities in each chunk. Players only join the server and need nothing installed.

How it compares

Full comparison

Cobblemon Autobattle is a client-side only mod for Fabric and NeoForge on 1.21.1, released under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 or later and open source, so it changes battles on the client and not chunk density. Let Me Despawn is server-side only and open source under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 only, with files for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt across 1.12.2 – 26.3, so it removes entities by its own rules across more loaders.
