Chum

by Le0nia

Chum changes how fishing works in Minecraft, adding a fishing minigame, worms that rain can bring, and new fishing enchantments.

ForgeClient and serverMIT License1.18.2 – 1.20.1

What it does

Chum reworks several parts of the fishing system. Players fish through a minigame that replaces the plain wait-and-click catch, and worms can appear during rain and be picked up. A parrot that is attracted to a worm behaves differently, and the mod adds fishing-related enchantments and two paintings.

Servers that run it need every player to install it too. Installing Chum on a server is not enough on its own; each player has to run it as well. It is published for Forge only, with files for 1.18.2, 1.19.2 and 1.20.1, and the latest file targets 1.20.1.

The author states that development is paused and that the mod may be out of date. Current incompatibilities are listed by the author, and more features are planned but not yet released. The code is licensed under the MIT License, which means Chum is not open source.

Key features

  1. Fishing minigame

Catching a fish is handled by a minigame that changes the way a catch is made compared with vanilla fishing.

  2. Rain-driven worms

Worms can spawn during rain and be picked up, giving players a bait source tied to the weather.

  3. Parrot interaction

Parrots react differently to worms, so an attracted worm can block a parrot from following its usual behavior.

  4. Fishing enchantments and paintings

New enchantments for fishing gear and two new paintings add to the content around the fishing theme.
