Cardinal

by Sorryitsxanax

Cardinal is a modular Fabric RPG framework that adds a D&D-inspired attribute system, combat rules and magic integration to Minecraft.

FabricClient and serverCC0 1.0 Universal1.21.10

What it does

Cardinal is split into two main modules, cardinal-core and cardinal-combat, so a modpack can take the attribute system and combat rules together or use the core alone. The core introduces core attributes modeled on classic D&D, which raise physical melee damage, attack speed, movement speed, max health, max mana and mana regeneration. Combat adds damage scaling, critical hits, floating damage indicators and a mana system for spell casting.

Both modules run on the client and on the server, so the server and every player need them installed. Installation requires the Fabric API. The mod is published for Fabric only, for 1.21.10, with 1.0.2 as the latest file, which is an alpha build. It is released under the CC0 1.0 Universal license and is not open source. Its attributes also affect social interactions such as trading and work progress, and damage is driven by attribute values rather than the weapon alone.

Key features

  1. D&D-inspired core attributes

Core attributes model a classic tabletop attribute system and feed into health, mana, speed and melee damage.

  2. Critical hits and damage scaling

Damage scales with the attacker's attributes, and critical hits add a chance for stronger strikes.

  3. Mana and spell casting

A mana pool with its own regeneration rate supports spell casting as part of the combat module.

  4. Floating damage indicators

Damage numbers appear above targets so players can read the outcome of each hit.

  5. Attributes beyond combat

The attribute values also influence trading and work progress, which extends the system into social interactions.

Questions

Does Cardinal need the Fabric API?

Yes. The Fabric API is required, and it must be installed next to both cardinal-core and cardinal-combat.

Do both modules have to be installed?

No. The two modules are split, so a modpack can use cardinal-core alone or add cardinal-combat for the combat rules and mana system.

Does the server need Cardinal?
