Calamitous Health

by ItsMochaTheOtter

Calamitous Health replaces hunger-based regeneration with a health system that depends on time and armor, and it is configured through a file.

FabricClient and serverMIT LicenseOpen source1.20.1

What it does

The mod changes how health recovers in a Fabric game on Minecraft 1.20.1. Natural regeneration no longer depends on hunger and instead scales with elapsed time. Taking damage while wearing armor can apply a temporary penalty that reduces armor effectiveness, which discourages players from relying on heavy armor alone. Most of these aspects can be tuned in the mod's config file.

Both the server and every player need the mod, since it runs on client and server. The mod is released under the MIT License and is open source, with its source code and issue tracker publicly linked. Files exist for Fabric only, for 1.20.1, with version 1.0.1 published on 2025-12-18.

Key features

  1. Time-scaled regeneration

Natural healing is tied to elapsed time rather than to the hunger bar.

  2. Temporary armor penalties

Damage taken while wearing armor can briefly reduce the armor's effectiveness.

  3. Config file options

Most aspects of the health system can be adjusted through the configuration file.
