CactusForage

by GAMBELDEV

CactusForage adds 28 new cactus species to the world, with flowers, fruit and seeds that players can harvest for food.

FabricForgeClient and serverMIT License1.20.1

What it does

The cacti grow in several biomes, including desert, badlands, savanna, windswept hills, plains and meadow, and add color to those landscapes. Players find them as they explore and can plant their seeds to start a personal cactus garden. Many of the species are rare and harder to locate, so collecting every one takes some searching.

Cacti need time to grow flowers and fruit, and the fruit is picked with shears, which leaves the plant in place. Cactus fruit can be eaten raw as a filling meal, or combined with wheat to bake nine new baked goods and food items. The mod is published for Fabric and Forge on Minecraft 1.20.1, and it runs on client and server, so the server and every player need it. The code is under the MIT License and is not open source.

  1. 28 cactus species

The mod adds 28 new cactus species, each with its own flowers and fruit, spread across several biomes.

  2. Fruit harvesting with shears

Cactus fruit is taken with shears, and the plant regrows its flowers and fruit over time before the next harvest.

  3. Seeds and gardening

  4. Nine baked goods

Cactus fruit and wheat combine into nine new baked goods and food items, adding variety to the food the mod provides.

Use cases

Building a cactus garden

Players collect seeds from different species and plant them in a garden, letting the cacti grow flowers and fruit for later harvests.

Desert and badlands foraging

Exploring dry biomes such as desert and badlands is a way to find rarer species and gather fruit for cooking.

Who it’s for: Players who enjoy foraging, gardening and cooking in Minecraft 1.20.1 worlds, on single-player or multiplayer servers where the server runs the mod too.

What the author says

The CactusForage mod adds 28 new species of cacti to various biomes that add color and food to the world. Wait (patiently) for the cacti to grow, flower, and fruit before harvesting a fruit (might want to use shears if it's a spiny one!). Craft seeds from the fruit or simply shear off a pad (if it's a prickly pear)…
