BuroSound
by BURO
Map makers and resource pack creators can place custom ambient music in a world through BuroSound, a Fabric mod that defines music zones in JSON.
What it does
BuroSound lets map makers and resource pack creators attach background music and ambience to specific areas of a world. Setup happens through a JSON resource pack rather than in-game interfaces, so zone configurations can be versioned like any other data file. Playlists can chain tracks so that each one starts when the previous one finishes, and zones can fade audio in and out when a player moves between them or leaves a dedicated exit zone.
The mod is client-side only, so players install it and servers do not need it. Installation requires Fabric Loader and Fabric API. BuroSound is published for Fabric across 14 release versions, 1.21.1 – 26.2, and the code is open source under the MIT License. Its first file appeared on 2026-03-12 and the latest one, 1.1.0-mc26.2 for 26.2, on 2026-09-21.
Key features
Spatial music zones
Custom music and ambience are tied to coordinates and blocks, so a track plays only in the area a creator defines.
Playlist chaining
Tracks in a playlist are queued so that the next one starts automatically when the current one ends.
Smooth transitions
Audio fades as a player moves between zones, and dedicated exit zones stop playback when the player leaves.
Note block ducking
Note blocks can play temporarily while the background music lowers its volume, so melodies remain audible over it.
In-game debugging overlay
A visual overlay shows the exact boundaries of music zones, and client-side commands help creators check their setup.
Compatibility
Latest build for each game version and loader.

Use cases
Who it’s for: BuroSound suits map makers and resource pack creators who want music tied to places in a world. Players who only join multiplayer servers without building maps have little use for it.
How it compares
PartyBox is client-side only, MIT licensed and published for Fabric across 1.21 – 26.2, so it covers a similar range without any configuration pack. Ambience Discs is a client and server mod under a Creative Commons Attribution Non Commercial 4.0 license, with files for 1.21 – 1.21.11, so both sides must run it. Music Interface covers Fabric and NeoForge for 1.21.1 – 26.3 under All rights reserved, and it is not open source.
