Burning Block

by Gourmandd

Burning Block makes fire leave marks on the world, so players can see where fire has been and clean up after it.

NeoForgeClient and serverMIT LicenseOpen source1.21.1

What it does

Blocks next to a fire can be damaged or converted into other blocks, which makes fire spread in a way that changes the terrain over time. The effect is meant to feel more believable than a fire that simply burns out. Conversions are driven by block tags and NeoForge data maps, so the mod's rules can be changed without editing code.

The mod is built with modpack makers and datapack authors in mind, and it supports datapacks, so the block conversions can be adjusted per world. Ash is added as a decorative block, and Supplementaries can produce both types of ash during a fire, with item tags allowing both to be used in recipes. Burning Block requires Moonlight Lib on NeoForge. Servers that run it need every player to install it too. Files are published for NeoForge 1.21.1, and the mod is released under the MIT License as open source.

Key features

  1. Fire leaves marks

Fire changes nearby blocks, so burned areas remain visible after the flames are gone.

  2. Adjacent block conversion

Blocks beside fire are damaged or converted, and the rules are set through block tags and data maps.

  3. Ash decorative block

Ash is added as a decorative block that appears where fire has burned.

  4. Datapack support

Block conversions can be adjusted with datapacks, which suits modpacks and custom worlds.

  5. Supplementaries ash

Supplementaries can produce both types of ash during fire, and item tags let either be used in recipes.
