Bundle Backport-ish

by ThePotatoArchivist

With Bundle Backport-ish, players can use bundles with the mechanics of newer Minecraft builds on the 1.21.1 version of the game, while the original bundle interface stays in place.

What it does

The mod backports bundle mechanics to earlier versions and keeps the original user interface. Scrolling the mouse wheel over an open bundle changes which slot is selected, and that slot decides which item is pulled out when the player right-clicks. The selected slot stays highlighted when the mouse leaves the bundle, so a player can pass the bundle to another player without losing the choice. Items such as shulker boxes stay inside bundles as before, and interactions still use the right-click method of 1.21.1 and earlier.

Bundles can be dyed by combining them with the matching dye in the crafting grid. The recipe follows the newer pattern, so a bundle needs only one leather and one string. A datapack named bundle-backportish:rabbithide adds a rabbit hide recipe option, and the mod works with EMI, which shows the dyeing recipes that NBT crafting would otherwise hide. The scrolling implementation is based on the Bundle Tweaks code by zacharybarbanell, under the MIT License. Bundles also work with Mouse Tweaks. The mod is published for 1.20.1, 1.21 and 1.21.1, and it requires the bundles experiment to be enabled, which is hidden by default in world creation.

Key features

  1. Scrolling bundle selection

The mouse wheel changes the selected slot in a bundle instead of pulling items out, and the chosen slot sets what comes out next.

  2. Dyeing in the crafting grid

A bundle is dyed by placing it in the crafting grid with a matching dye, and the recipe follows the newer pattern.

  3. Original interface kept

The bundle screen stays as it was in the earlier interface, with a visible selected slot and items still shown in the slots.

  4. Rabbit hide recipe option

A datapack enables a recipe that uses rabbit hide instead of leather for crafting a bundle, and it is chosen during world creation.

What the author says

An opinionated backport of the bundle scrolling and dyeing mechanics from 1.21.2. The UI is unchanged (other than showing which slot is selected), so you still can see all the items. Contains integration with EMI to show the bundle dyeing recipes, as they are NBT crafting and wouldn't show up normally.
