Builtin Servers
Modpack makers can predefine the multiplayer servers players see in their list, so Builtin Servers replaces a shipped server.dat file.
What it does
Builtin Servers lets a modpack author define servers in a config file instead of distributing a preconfigured server list. Servers written there appear in the client's multiplayer list. Because the config is shipped with the pack, new instances start with those servers, while existing instances keep any servers a player has added when the pack is updated.
Builtin servers are marked with a custom badge in the list so players can tell which entries came from the modpack. The badge can be turned off. Forced servers are the exception: they cannot be deleted or edited in the client and are re-added each time unless the config changes, and they display a custom message instead.
The mod is client-side only and requires Fabric API on Fabric. Files are published for Fabric and Forge for 1.18.2 – 1.20.1 under the Mozilla Public License 2.0, which is open source. The latest build, 2.1+1.20, targets 1.20.1 and was released on 2023-08-22. Snapshot builds are published too.
Key features
Config-defined servers
Servers are listed in a config file that a modpack can ship alongside its other settings.
Custom server badge
Built-in entries show a badge in the multiplayer list, which can be disabled in the config.
Forced servers
Entries marked as forced are re-added every time and cannot be removed or edited by the player.
Preserved player servers
Servers a player adds on their own remain in existing instances after a modpack update.
Compatibility
Latest build for each game version and loader.
This mod also publishes snapshot builds. Snapshots are not shown in the matrix.

Use cases
Modpack distribution
A pack author supplies a set of servers for a modpack's community without including a binary server list file.
Pack updates
New servers can be added in an update while the servers players already added stay in place.
Who it’s for: Modpack makers who want to publish a fixed set of multiplayer servers with their pack. Players who install such a pack see the servers without editing their list by hand.

What the author says
A small mod that lets modpack makers set up built-in servers instead of shipping a preconfigured server.dat file. If you want to add default servers that will show up in the server list when players download your modpack, just run the mod once and edit the config file generated at.minecraft/config/builtinservers.json.
