Bossbar
by boyonk
Bossbar shows a health bar for chosen entities, such as bosses, and lets server owners control which players see it and how far away it can be seen.
What it does
Each entity can carry a bossbar that displays its name, current health and maximum health. A command swaps the bossbar of an entity out for another bossbar id, and a target selector or UUID picks the entity. Default bossbars can be set in the mod's configuration, so the same bar appears on every spawn of a given type.
A bossbar can be limited to a range around its entity, so only players inside that range see it. The mod can also darken the sky and thicken the fog while a bossbar is active, and it can set the bar color and the number of visual segments. Server owners can disable a bossbar on an entity when it is no longer needed. The command code is written to avoid the bulk of vanilla's bossbar commands, which keeps it light on the server.
Installation requires Fabric API. Bossbar is server-side only, so players join without installing it, and the server needs no client files. It is published for Fabric across 15 release versions, 1.20.4 – 26.1.2, with snapshot builds available, and the code is under All rights reserved, so it is not open source.
Key features
Entity health bars
Bossbars display an entity's name, current health and maximum health, shown to players close enough to see the entity.
Range-limited visibility
An integer sets the distance at which a bossbar is visible, so players outside that range do not see it.
Sky and fog effects
Boolean settings let an entity's bossbar darken the sky or thicken the fog while it is active.
Bar color and segments
Commands set the bar color and the number of visual segments, and the bossbar's visibility can be changed on demand.
Command extension
A command option, registered before vanilla parses the bossbar argument, accepts entity targets alongside server bossbar ids.

How it compares
Mythic Mobs is a Fabric mod for 1.21.4 – 1.21.10 that needs the server and is optional on the client, and it is under All rights reserved, so it is not open source. Boss Tweaks is server-side only, open source under the MIT License, and published for 1.21.1 only. Undertale HealthBars is open source under the MIT License and covers 1.21 – 26.3, and it runs on the client alone, so a server does not need it.
