Book Wyrms
by Lykrast
Lizards that recycle enchanted books into new random enchantments are what Book Wyrms adds to Forge and NeoForge forests, with seven colors that each draw on a different pool.
What it does
Book Wyrms adds lizards that spawn in forests in a range of colors. Players herd them for meat and colored scales, breed them with plain books, and feed them unwanted enchanted books. A wyrm digests the book and later produces a new random enchanted book, with the enchantment strength depending on the level the wyrm needs to digest before making one.
Each color draws on a different pool: gray is the most common and can produce any enchantment, red covers melee weapons, orange covers bows and crossbows, green covers tools, blue covers armor and shields, teal covers fishing rods and tridents, and purple covers some modded items such as Domestication Innovation's Collar Tag, acting as gray when none of those are present. Genes that govern recycling behavior can be inspected with the Book Wyrm Analyzer.
Digestion leaves boluses that can be fed back to salvage part of a digested book's power or turned into Wyrmutagen. That substance changes a wyrm's stats or color, and recoloring also sheds the old scales, so players can collect more scales even by recoloring a wyrm to its own color. Farmer's Delight is an optional dependency. Only the server and each player's client need the mod to run together, and files are published for Forge and NeoForge only, for 1.19.1 – 1.20.1, with 1.2.1 for 1.20.1 as the latest file. The code is not open source and is released under All rights reserved.
