Boe's Earth

by Miki-Liki

Boe's Earth adds extra blockstates to a set of vanilla blocks, such as snow-topped leaves, vines and carpets, so shaders can animate them.

FabricClient and serverApache License 2.0Open source1.20.1 – 1.21.1

What it does

Boe's Earth gives several vanilla blocks additional blockstates. Snow-topped leaves get their own texture, and leaves carrying snow, vines and carpets can wave in the wind when a shader or resource pack uses those states. The blockstates are meant to improve visual fidelity and stay unused by the game itself unless a shader or pack reads them.

Because the extra states sit beside the vanilla ones, the default blockstates keep their usual behavior, and blockstates added by other mods are left alone. The mod can be paired with Iris Shaders, which defines a shader-side flag named BOES EARTH BLOCKSTATES. Shaders that do not support the mod need to be checked before use, and Optifine or other shader loaders may not read the states at all.

Installation needs Cloth Config API and Mod Menu on Fabric. The mod is open source under the Apache License 2.0 and is published for Fabric across 7 release versions, 1.20.1 – 1.21.1. Its latest file is 1.3.0 for 1.21.1.

Key features

  1. Snow-topped leaves

Leaves with snow on top use a different texture, so the snowy look appears without a separate block.

  2. Waving foliage

Snow, vines and carpets can be set to wave together with leaves when a supporting shader is active.

  3. Config toggles

Each blockstate group can be enabled or disabled in the config, and some update logic can be turned off to reduce lag.

  4. Lighter update handling

Blocks placed or destroyed by hand update on demand, while random tick updates can be sped up with the randomTickSpeed gamerule.

Questions

Does Boe's Earth need a shader to show its effects?

The blockstates only change appearance when a shader or resource pack reads them. Shaders that support the mod, such as those paired with Iris Shaders, are needed for the waving effects.

Do Cloth Config API and Mod Menu have to be installed?

Yes. Both are required dependencies, and Boe's Earth needs them on Fabric alongside the mod itself.

Does the mod work with Forge or NeoForge?

The catalog lists Boe's Earth only for Fabric. A Forge build is mentioned in the author notes, and Sinytra Connector is said to work, but future support is not promised.

In the catalog

Boe's Earth is one of 7,216 Magic mods on ModsFinder, and one of 3,630 Magic mods for Fabric. 32,366 mods support Minecraft 1.21.1.
