BlxckoutFX
by Lopew
BlxckoutFX applies a dark theme to Minecraft's interface by changing how the GUI is rendered, so panels and buttons look darker to players whose eyes are bothered by bright white screens.
What it does
The mod transforms the default white panels into a darker, custom style through shader-based rendering rather than by replacing vanilla textures. Menu screens darken only the buttons, while in-game screens darken both buttons and GUI panels. Main menu backgrounds, the Minecraft logo, mod list images and other pictures stay intact and receive no darkening effect.
Only client-side only installs are needed: the server and other players do not have to run it, and it works on Fabric, Forge and NeoForge. Fabric API is required on Fabric. Builds cover 1.12.2 and 1.20.1 – 26.2, with 2.1.2 as the latest file for Fabric and Forge and 2.1.1 for NeoForge. The code is open source under the MIT License, and public links exist for the source code and the issue tracker.
The author created the mod after building a darker interface for personal use and then shared it with other players who wanted the same kind of darker GUI. It is described as a lightweight, first Minecraft mod, and it is intentionally focused on the interface rather than adding further systems.
Key features
Dark buttons and panels
In-game screens darken both the buttons and the GUI panels, giving a consistent dark theme across the interface.
Menu-only button darkening
On menu screens only the buttons are darkened, leaving the rest of the screen as it was.
Intact images and logo
Main menu backgrounds, the Minecraft logo and mod list images are kept as they are.
Shader-based styling
The darkening runs through shader rendering and needs manual shader setup before it takes effect.

How it compares
Dark Mode Everywhere (Fabric) is a client-side only, open source mod under the MIT License, published for 1.19.1 – 1.20.1 on Fabric alone. No Report Button is also client-side only and open source, under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 only, with files for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt across 1.19.1 – 26.3. Dimension Based Shader Switch is a Fabric client-side only mod under the GNU General Public License v3.0 only for 1.21.11 – 26.2, and it changes shaders by dimension instead of darkening the interface.
