Biome Squisher
by lukebemish
Biome Squisher is a library for adding biomes to a world without removing the vanilla biome layout, by shrinking existing biomes to make room.
What it does
Instead of placing new biomes over the vanilla biome map, the library squishes vanilla biomes outward to open a hole for each injected biome. Borders between biomes stay in place, and each biome shrinks or grows by a share of its area, so rarities relative to one another are kept. Biomes that are squished shrink in a uniform way rather than being cut out entirely.
The injection is defined in datapacks. A series file names the dimension and the biome space to affect, and lists the squishers and the levels they apply to. Each injection states which biome it adds, where it is placed, and how large the injection is, from 0 for nothing up to 1 for the entire biome space. Multiple mods can inject into the same location, and their injections are layered on top of one another in a deterministic order, so they coexist without breaking each other's biomes.
Biome Squisher works on the noise biome source, and the math for squishing is handled by the library so mod authors do not have to deal with the edge cases themselves. It also provides an API for injecting extra biomes into the biome map. The library is server-side only, runs on Fabric, NeoForge and Quilt, and requires Fabric API on every loader.
Key features
Non-destructive biome injection
New biomes are added by squishing vanilla biomes outward, so the original placement and boundaries are preserved.
Datapack-driven configuration
Injections, series and squishers are described in JSON files under the data folder, with no code needed for a pack.
Layered multi-mod injections
Several injections aimed at the same location are applied in a fixed order and each one is squished properly.
Biome map API
Developers can use the API to place additional biomes into the biome map, and the datapack format works with that same map.

Use cases
Adding biomes to a modded world
A datapack author can place new biomes among vanilla ones, so they appear within the familiar biome layout.
Combining several biome mods
Multiple biome mods targeting the same location can coexist without one mod pushing the others out of the map.
Who it’s for: Mod authors who add biomes and pack makers who want new biomes within the vanilla map. Players only need the library on the server.

What the author says
An innovative new approach to adding biomes to the vanilla Minecraft biome map, Biome Squisher is designed with the goal of being non-destructive, meaning that vanilla biome placement, boundaries, and relative rarities are preserved. Additionally, a secondary goal of Biome Squisher is to work well with multiple biome…
