Better Selection

by MDLC01

With Better Selection installed, Ctrl+← and Ctrl+→ move the text cursor more usefully in Minecraft text fields, and the mod also adds Command-key shortcuts for line start, line end and deletion.

FabricClient-side onlyThe UnlicenseOpen source1.19.3 – 26.3

What it does

The mod changes the word-jumping behavior that the cursor uses in chat, sign editing, book writing and other text boxes. Instead of stopping at every punctuation mark, the selection moves across whole words, which makes editing longer passages quicker.

Better Selection is client-side only: only the player's client needs it, and a server does not have to install it. It is released under the Unlicense, so the source code is public, and it is published for Fabric only, with files covering 1.19.3 – 26.3 and 1.9.1 as the latest file for 26.3.

Key features

  1. Improved word movement

Ctrl+← and Ctrl+→ skip whole words in text fields, so the cursor does not stop at every symbol.

  2. Jump to line start and end

Command+← goes to the start of the current line, and Command+→ goes to its end.

  3. Delete to the line edge

Command+Backspace removes everything left of the cursor, and Command+Delete removes everything to the right.

Use cases

Editing long chat messages

Players writing long messages can select and remove whole phrases with a single key combination.

Writing signs and books

Text boxes in signs and books respond to the same shortcuts, which helps when correcting a line of text.

Who it’s for: Players who type a lot in Minecraft text fields and want word-level cursor movement that behaves more like a desktop text editor.
