Better Clipboard

by NotTouchedGrass

Better Clipboard, a Fabric utility, adds keyboard shortcuts for copying and pasting items in the inventory, plus a copy action that sends an item's name or identifier to the clipboard.

FabricClient-side onlyAll rights reserved1.20.2 – 26.3

What it does

Better Clipboard extends the clipboard handling of Minecraft's inventory screens. Holding Ctrl while clicking an item copies it, and a Ctrl+V action places a copied item into the hovered slot. Copies can keep the item's tags, so the pasted stack matches the original's data. Ctrl+Shift+C copies the display name of an item as text, and Ctrl+Alt+C copies its registry identifier, which is useful when writing commands or configuration files.

Pasting a copied item into a slot works in creative mode and needs a server running the mod to take effect in multiplayer. The mod is a Fabric build for 1.20.2 – 26.3 and needs no other dependency. Files are published for 19 release versions, with 1.0.4 for 26.3 as the latest. It is a client-side only mod, so players install it alone and servers need nothing. It is not open source and is released under All rights reserved.

Key features

  1. Ctrl+C item copy

Copies the hovered item to an internal clipboard, which Ctrl+V then pastes into another slot.

  2. Copy with tags

Copies can carry the item's tags, so the pasted stack keeps the same data as the source.

  3. Copy item name

Ctrl+Shift+C puts the display name of the hovered item on the system clipboard as text.

  4. Copy item identifier

Ctrl+Alt+C puts the registry identifier of the hovered item on the system clipboard.

Use cases

Building with exact items

Copying a configured item with its tags lets a player fill several slots with the same stack without rebuilding it by hand.

Writing commands

Copying an identifier avoids looking up the registry name of an item when writing a give command or a data pack entry.

Who it’s for: Players who copy items often in creative mode, and players who write commands, data packs or configuration that refers to item identifiers.
