BandwidthOptimizer
by PInk_Cats
BandwidthOptimizer reduces the network traffic that heavily modded Minecraft servers send to their players, and it has to be installed on both sides.
What it does
Packets are shrunk once Minecraft or the loader has finished building them. The mod can map repeated packet structures, batch small packets, compress streams across frames and reuse chunk data a client already holds. Idle clients can also have presentation-only traffic reduced, with current state restored when the player returns.
Results differ from one server to another and depend on which packets are sent. Measured figures from real heavily modded servers are historical baselines, not guarantees. Data that is already compressed, encrypted or media-like gains little from a second compression layer.
Builds cover 1.19.2 – 26.2 for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt. Fabric builds need the Fabric API library installed alongside. The code is under the GNU Lesser General Public License v2.1 or later, so the project is open source.
Key features
Cross-frame compression
Zstd compression runs across frames with sequence and epoch checks, and recovers from missing or invalid boundaries.
Packet mapping and batching
Repeated packet structures get literal and template mapping, and small packets are batched in order with protected flush points.
Verified chunk transport
Chunks are sent as full data, references or patches, and reused chunks are checked by hash before use.
Idle traffic reduction
Light and deep idle states cut presentation traffic, then restore block, entity and HUD state when play resumes.
BO Stats reports
The /bandwidthoptimizer stats command uploads a report with charts, player history and packet attribution.
