Avariterra
by Gumsao
Avariterra, a Forge world generation mod for 1.20.1, adds the Burnt Lands, a barren region with deadly enemies, ruins and unique items to explore.
What it does
Avariterra opens a wasteland biome called the Burnt Lands, a stretch of barren plain under a tall tower that marks the ruins of a fallen empire. Explorers find new structures there, along with hostile creatures and items that are not available in the base game. Players who go there should expect a challenge, since several of the mobs deal heavy melee damage.
The mod adds a set of distinct creatures. The Collector is a neutral merchant who sits on the ground and opens a trading interface when a player right-clicks it, although it fights back if provoked. Absolon and Carnifex are hostile melee mobs, and Carnifex wields a two-handed axe. The Collector's True Form is a boss that attracts players carrying large amounts of items and calls minions instead of fighting alone, and it can heal itself by damaging the player.
Avariterra requires Curios API and GeckoLib. Curios API must be at 5.14.1+1.20.1 or newer, and GeckoLib at 4.8.4 or newer, for the mod to load correctly. The mod is Forge only, released for 1.20.1, and it runs on the client alone. The mod is published under All rights reserved and is not open source.

How it compares
Ooocraft and exteralleria are both Forge mods for 1.20.1 that run on client and server, and both are released under All rights reserved. Desolate is also Forge for 1.20.1 and needs both sides too, but it is released under the MIT License, so its code is open to reuse. Avariterra differs from all three by running on the client alone.
