Audio Engine Tweaks
by The__Matty
Audio Engine Tweaks changes how Minecraft schedules sounds so that a full sound pool no longer silences all in-game audio until slots free up.
What it does
Each tick the mod collects pending sounds and sorts them into categories, where a lower category number means higher priority. Inside each category, sounds are ordered by their distance from the player, so nearer sounds are handled first.
Depending on how full the sound pool is, the mod permits only certain sound types to play and skips the rest. Should the pool still fill completely, newly requested sounds are skipped entirely. A duplication check caps how many matching sounds may originate from a single block, and any surplus is dropped.
The mod runs on the client alone, so no server install is needed. It targets Fabric and Quilt, with files available for every release from 1.17.1 onward, snapshot builds included. The code is open source under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 only.
Key features
Priority-based sound scheduling
Sounds are grouped by category each tick, and lower category numbers are played first.
Distance-sorted playback
Within a category, sounds closer to the player are handled before more distant ones.
Fill-level thresholds
As the sound pool fills, only selected sound types are allowed to play, keeping the rest of the audio running.
Duplicate limiting
A set number of matching sounds may play from one block-sized position, and any extra copies are skipped.
