Asylum Engine
by Roxanne
Asylum Engine is a Forge and NeoForge mod by Roxanne that lets builders recreate the experience of the Outlast horror games in Minecraft.
What it does
Asylum Engine brings the Outlast style of play into the game, with climbing over tall obstacles, squeezing through gaps, chase scenes, an infrared camcorder and sound design meant to resemble the original series. It also serves as a base for the successor AsylumZ, which uses the engine to build high quality Outlast-style levels. Custom blocks round out the set for map makers who want their own environments.
The mod is aimed at map makers and adventure creators who want a horror setting with gameplay mechanics rather than only decoration. The server and every player need the mod installed. Builds are published for Forge and NeoForge across three release versions, 1.19.2, 1.19.4 and 1.20.1, and the latest file is 1.9.0 for 1.20.1, released 2023-12-23. The code is released under the MIT License but is not open source.
