Aquaculture 2

by Shadowclaimr

Players who fish in Minecraft can catch more than thirty new fish with Aquaculture 2, a Forge and NeoForge mod released under All rights reserved.

ForgeNeoForgeClient and serverAll rights reserved1.20.1 – 26.1.2

What it does

New fish are tied to biomes: freshwater species such as bass, carp and gar, arid-zone fish, arctic and ocean species, jungle fish and swamp or mushroom-island catches. Some fish swim freely in rivers, ponds and the ocean instead of only appearing from fishing. Caught fish can be turned into fillets, and the number of fillets depends on the species, or on weight when that config option is enabled.

Fishing gains new rods that accept hooks and bait, along with customizable line and bobbers. A Tackle Box holds modifiers and extra hooks, bait, line and bobbers. Any modded or vanilla rod works for the basic catch. The mod also adds loot such as driftwood, tin cans, lockboxes, treasure chests and a message in a bottle, and rare drops can include Neptunium tools or armor, which is configurable.

Client and server: the server and every player need it. Aquaculture 2 is published for Forge and NeoForge across 12 release versions, 1.20.1 – 26.1.2. The latest Forge file is 2.5.7 for 1.20.1, and the latest NeoForge file is 2.9.2 for 26.1.2. NeoForge builds only work from 1.20.4 onward. Four catalog mods require it, including Lava Fishing and Survivor's Aquaculture.

Key features

  1. Biome-specific fish

Over thirty species are assigned to freshwater, arid, arctic, saltwater, jungle, swamp and mushroom-island biomes, including modded biomes.

  2. Hooks and bait rods

A set of new rods equips hooks and bait for added fishing effects, and any modded or vanilla rod can also be used.

  3. Customizable line and bobbers

Fishing line and bobbers can be swapped to change the look and behavior of a rod.

  4. Tackle Box

The Tackle Box applies modifiers and stores extra hooks, bait, line and bobbers.

  5. Fish fillets

Caught fish yield fillets whose amount depends on the species, or on weight if enabled in the config.

Use cases

Fishing-focused survival

A player who wants more to catch in rivers, ponds and the ocean can use the biome fish and loot tables as a long-term goal.

Server fishing progression

Server owners can adjust the config options for fillet yield, weight and Neptunium loot to set how fishing rewards are paced.

Who it’s for: Players who want a larger fishing system with biome fish, custom gear and loot, and server owners who run a modded fishing progression on Forge or NeoForge.

How it compares

Full comparison

Stardew Fishing is open source under the MIT License, runs on Forge and NeoForge, and is published for 1.20.1 – 26.2, with client and server both needing it. Tide 2 is open source under the Mozilla Public License 2.0 and is published for Fabric, Forge and NeoForge across 1.20.1 – 1.21.5, so it reaches a wider set of loaders. Aquaculture 2 is not open source and is published only for Forge and NeoForge.

Questions

Which loaders does Aquaculture 2 support?

The mod is published for Forge and NeoForge only. Fabric is not among its loaders.

Does the server need Aquaculture 2 installed?

Yes. A server running it needs every connecting player to have it too.

Why does a NeoForge install fail on an older version?

NeoForge builds are only available from 1.20.4 onward, so an earlier game version needs the Forge file instead.

Do Lava Fishing and Survivor's Aquaculture need Aquaculture 2?

Yes. Lava Fishing and Survivor's Aquaculture are among the four catalog mods that require Aquaculture 2.

In the catalog

Aquaculture 2 is one of 6,151 Food mods on ModsFinder, and one of 3,337 Food mods for Forge. 15,189 mods support Minecraft 26.1.2.
