Angelica
by mitchej123
Angelica is a Forge rendering overhaul for Minecraft 1.7.10 that replaces parts of the rendering pipeline, adds Iris-based shader support and offers an optional SDL GPU renderer.
What it does
Angelica changes how the client draws the world. Java code emulates the fixed-function pipeline on top of a GL 3.3 core profile, so older rendering calls still execute on the newer profile. Shader support comes from an Iris backport with extra enhancements, which lets players run shader packs on 1.7.10 without a separate shader loader.
Chunk rendering comes from a Celeritas 2.5.12 (NH) build that adds multithreaded chunk construction and sorting for translucent geometry. The renderer is selectable: OpenGL is the default, and an SDL GPU option targets Vulkan, Metal and Direct3D 12. Angelica needs GTNH Lib and UniMixins to start, and it is licensed under a custom license that is not open source.
The mod is client-side only, so a server does not need it and players join without installing anything. It is published for Forge on 1.7.10 only, with the latest file, 2.2.33, dated 2026-10-14. StereoCraft: Stereoscopic 3D requires Angelica.
Key features
Iris shader backport
Shader packs load through an Iris backport that adds enhancements over the original code.
Threaded terrain building
Chunk meshes are built on worker threads, and translucent geometry is sorted during the build.
Fixed function emulation
Old fixed function calls are translated to the GL 3.3 core profile in Java.
Selectable renderer
The renderer can be switched between OpenGL and an SDL GPU backend for Vulkan, Metal or Direct3D 12.

Use cases
Shader packs on 1.7.10
Players who want shaders on the 1.7.10 version install Angelica to load Iris-based shader packs.
Frame rate on modern hardware
Players who play with heavy terrain loads use the threaded chunk builder to spread the work across cores.
Who it’s for: Players on Forge 1.7.10 who want shader support or a different rendering backend. Server owners do not need to install it.
How it compares
Beddium is client-side only, open source under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 only, and available for 1.7.10 on Forge, so it covers the same version. Neodymium Unofficial is also client-side only and open source under the same license, for 1.7.10 on Forge. Entity Culling is client-side only and runs on Forge for 1.12.2 – 1.16.5, under All rights reserved, so it does not target the 1.7.10 version.
