AirstrikePointers

by iverson35

AirstrikePointers adds two Forge tools, a Laser Pointer and a Pocket Laser Pointer, that let players mark blocks and entities for their team to see.

ForgeClient and serverMIT LicenseOpen source1.20 – 1.20.1

What it does

The Laser Pointer is the main tool. Holding right-click opens a pointer interface, and releasing places a marker on the targeted block or entity, which other players can see. Shift with right-click switches between two operation modes, and Shift with left-click clears the markers a player created. Each player may keep one marker at a time. The tool works in a way similar to a telescope, with a spyglass zoom overlay, and a lever click sound plus a note block beep confirm a successful mark.

The Laser Pointer offers two modes. A Point Marker is fixed to whichever block or entity the player aims at, with the entity's name displayed above it. Vector Marker draws a prominent directional indicator between a start point and an end point, which suits guiding airstrikes. Markers cannot be guided, and the marked entity's marker is removed when that entity dies, despawns or unloads. Vector Mode may show slightly lower rendering compatibility in some situations, such as with shaders.

The Pocket Laser Pointer is a companion tool for quick, non-guided marking. An icon selected from the surrounding context is placed on the target as soon as a quick right-click is made. Holding right-click for three ticks, a configurable delay, opens a radial selection wheel with eight icons, and dragging toward an icon and releasing places a marker with that icon. Unlike Laser Pointer markers, Pocket Laser Pointer markers cannot be guided and serve as temporary callouts. Both tools share their features and are published for Forge only, with Vector Mode and the rest of the mod set for 1.20.1.

Key features

  1. Target marking

Players aim at blocks and entities and place visible markers that other players on the same server can see.

  2. Point and vector markers

The Laser Pointer switches between a name-tagged point marker and a directional vector marker drawn between two points.

  3. Guided point markers

With guidance enabled, a Point Marker steers configured entities toward it by changing their velocity.

  4. Quick radial marking

The Pocket Laser Pointer opens an eight-icon wheel after a short hold, and the icon is placed where the mouse is dragged and released.

  5. Marker clearing

Shift with left-click removes the markers a player created, and one marker per player is kept at any time.
