Accurate Skies

by Geming400

Accurate Skies changes the overworld sky so the sun and moon follow real-world positions instead of the default day and night timer.

FabricClient or server, optionalCC0 1.0 UniversalOpen source1.21.1 – 1.21.11

What it does

The mod replaces the vanilla day-night loop with a 24-hour cycle, so the sun and moon rise and set at times that match real life. Its main setting, Accurate Celestial Bodies, lets the sun's position follow the sky at the player's location, and the moon can appear during the day as it does in reality. Without that setting active, the day still runs on a 24-hour cycle, but the sun and moon keep vanilla placement.

Two modes decide where the player's location comes from. The first relies on the system clock and timezone and is enabled by default. The second uses geolocalisation: the position is found from the player's IP address through ipify, and a device database is installed on first use. The mod's own config controls which mode is active, and the Use Geo Localisation setting must be enabled before the second mode can be used. Location estimates from IP can be inaccurate. The ADNC command enables geolocalisation in game.

The mod is open source under the CC0 1.0 Universal license. It targets Fabric only and needs Fabric API and oωo (owo-lib). Mod Menu is optional, as is Sodium. Accurate Skies works on either side of a connection, and neither side needs it. In a multiplayer setting a modded server sends its own geolocalised timezone data to clients, while a vanilla client with a modded server will still see the server's timing. Files cover 1.21.1 – 1.21.11, with 1.0.4 for 1.21.11 as the latest file.

Key features

  1. 24-hour day cycle

The default day-night cycle is replaced with a 24-hour cycle, so one full day lasts a real day.

  2. Accurate sun and moon

With Accurate Celestial Bodies enabled, the sun follows its real-world position, and the moon can be seen in the daytime.

  3. Two location modes

Location can come from the system clock and timezone, which is the default, or from geolocalisation through ipify.

  4. Geolocalisation command

A command turns on geolocalisation, and the Use Geo Localisation setting must be enabled before the second mode works.

Questions

Does Accurate Skies need Fabric API?

Yes. Fabric API and oωo (owo-lib) are both required, and the mod runs only on Fabric.

Does the server need Accurate Skies?

No. The mod works on either side of a connection, so it can run on a server, on clients, or on both, and neither side needs it.

Why does the location look wrong in geolocalisation mode?

Location is estimated from the player's IP address, so the result can be inaccurate. The system clock mode avoids this.

Does the mod work with shaders?

Most shaders do not work with it, while Bliss Shaders is listed as compatible.

What the author says

This simple mod turns the overworld's sky into a more accurate one. IMPORTANT: - This mod will turn Minecraft's default day-night cycle into a 24 hours cycle - This mod won't fully work with most shaders, or even any. But some will be more compatible than other (like Bliss Shaders)
