Zombie UUID Preservation

by Estecka

Zombie UUID Preservation keeps a villager's identity intact when a zombified villager is cured, so its randomized texture stays the same.

FabricServer-side onlyMIT LicenseOpen source1.20 – 1.21.3

What it does

When a zombie villager is cured, the game normally gives the villager a new identity, and texture packs that randomize villager skins can make the appearance change afterward. The mod fixes this by carrying the original UUID over the conversion, so the villager keeps the look it had before it was zombified.

The fix works on the server side, and the author describes it as developed around villagers while also taking effect in other forms of conversion. Conversions of piglins and hoglins, skeletons into strays, husks into zombies, and zombies into drowned all pass through the same UUID handling.

The mod is built for Fabric and released under the MIT License as open source. Builds cover 1.20 – 1.21.3 across 11 release versions, and the latest file targets 1.21.1.

Key features

  1. Preserved villager textures

A cured villager keeps its randomized texture from before it was zombified, so texture pack variation does not shift.

  2. Piglin and hoglin conversion

UUIDs carry over when piglins and hoglins are zombified and later converted back.

  3. Skeleton, husk and zombie conversions

Skeletons becoming strays, husks becoming zombies and zombies becoming drowned keep the identity of the original mob.

Questions

Does Zombie UUID Preservation need to be installed on the client?

No. Server owners install it, and players connect with no copy of their own.

Which loader does Zombie UUID Preservation need?

It is published for Fabric only. No required dependency is listed for Fabric.

Why do villager textures change after curing without this mod?

With texture packs that randomize villager appearance, a cured zombie villager can get a new identity and look different. The mod preserves the UUID so the texture stays the same.

What the author says

If you use texture-packs that randomize villager textures, you may have noticed that their appearances change after being zombified or cured. This mod fixes that, by ensuring the villager's UUID is preserved after each conversion. Although being developped around villagers, this also takes effect on some other forms…
