Zombie Hordes
Zombie Hordes changes how zombies, skeletons, spiders and iron golems behave in combat, with zombies digging up reinforcements from the ground and stacking on top of one another.
What it does
Aggravated zombies, husks, drowned and other mobs that stand on soft surfaces start a ten-second dig animation and can bring a fresh zombie up out of the ground. Hordes also physically stack, so mobs of the same kind climb over each other instead of jamming one tile, and they break fragile blocks such as foliage, plants and thin ground cover as they push through.
Skeletons swap weapons during a fight: a bow when a target is in range, an empty hand when backing away, and a crossbow whose choice depends on whether allies are nearby, with a short wait between swaps. Zombified piglins fire flaming arrows, and a crossbow shot sets its target alight for five seconds. Skeletons and spiders leap onto targets more than two blocks above them with a jump boost rather than walking a long way around. Skeletons, strays and wither skeletons stop hitting each other in crossfire. Midnight also brings a horde spawner.
Iron golems regenerate while an enemy is in sight, at a level set by a gamerule from 0 to 255, and deflect most arrows, ignoring spectral arrow damage outright. A golem that hits anything targeting a villager or another golem sends nearby attackers flying, and golems shrug off wither, poison and levitation while able to extinguish themselves out of lava. Zombie Hordes is server-side only, so players join without installing it, and it is released as open source under the MIT License for 1.21.1, 26.1.2 and 26.2.
Key features
Zombie digging reinforcements
Aggravated zombies and related mobs dig up fresh zombies from the ground after a short animation.
Physically stacking hordes
Mobs of the same kind climb onto each other rather than blocking one tile, so crowds pour over walls.
Block-breaking mobs
Hordes tear through foliage, plants and thin ground cover while moving, so fields and gardens suffer.
Skeleton weapon swapping
Skeletons switch between bow, empty hand and crossbow during a fight, with a short wait between swaps.
