xokz's Glowing Toggle
by xokz
Players who need to be seen across a large multiplayer map can use xokz's Glowing Toggle, a datapack that gives each player a permanent glowing effect they switch on and off.
What it does
The mod is a datapack with no separate jar of its own, so it needs no Java code to run. Each player gets a trigger, glowing toggle, which applies or removes the glowing effect. Admins can lock or restore that ability for players, and use functions in the glowing namespace to make a player glow or stop glowing directly. Toggling the effect off also clears the glowing sources the pack set, so nothing is left behind.
The pack is built with performance in mind and is said to be compatible with other sources of glowing. It is published for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt, and as a data pack for server platforms, across 51 release versions, 1.13 – 26.3. The server needs the pack, while the client is optional, so players can join without installing anything. The code is open source under the MIT License, and the source code and issue tracker are public.
Key features
Player glowing toggle
A run trigger lets each player switch their own glowing effect on or off during play.
Admin lock and restore
Functions in the glowing admin namespace lock or restore the toggle ability for chosen players.
Direct glow control
Admins can make a player glow or stop glowing with dedicated functions, without the player using the trigger.
Clean removal of sources
Turning the effect off removes the glowing sources the pack applied, so tracking stops cleanly.

Use cases
Who it’s for: Server owners and administrators who run multiplayer worlds and want a simple way to make players visible. The server runs the pack while the client is optional, so players need no installation, which suits public servers with mixed mod lists.
How it compares
Simple Glowing is published for 1.13.1 – 26.3 under the MIT License, which is also open source, and the server runs it while the client is optional. Glow Trigger covers 1.21 – 26.2, is not open source, and its license is All rights reserved; the server runs it while the client is optional. Glowing Players is open source under the GNU General Public License v3.0 only and covers 1.13 – 1.21.11, with the server running it and the client optional.
