Mod for writers

by Pjeri32

Mod for writers lets players write notes, autographs and ID-card text onto in-game items, using the Item Edit plugin.

What it does

Writing on items is the core function. The mod lets a player add handwritten-style text to notes, autographs and ID cards, and a lore command lets roleplay notes be written onto items for use in roleplay play. Items can be given their own textures so the writing looks like it belongs in the world.

Document folders come in several colours and are created with the same method used for notes. Bundles are supported in the same way. The mod does not change the server side of a world, and the license is GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 only, so the source is open source. Mod for writers requires the Item Edit plugin, and it is published for Fabric only, for 1.20.1.

Custom item textures need the Optifine CIT Resewn mod or MCPatcher installed alongside it, because the custom item textures depend on that functionality. Newer versions may require a different setup.

Key features

  1. Writable notes and autographs

Notes, autographs and ID cards can carry text added by the player, for signing and personalising documents.

  2. Lore command for roleplay

A lore command lets players set roleplay notes on items, which suits roleplay servers and story play.

  3. Coloured document folders

Document folders come in several colours, created with the same method as notes, and bundles follow the same pattern.

  4. Custom item textures

Items can use their own textures when Optifine CIT Resewn or MCPatcher is installed, so the written items match the scene.

Use cases

Roleplay servers

Players write character papers and in-world documents with the lore command, which fits roleplay communities.

Story and adventure maps

Authors place readable notes and signed items in a map, with text the player writes or reads.

Who it’s for: Players and builders who run roleplay, story or adventure content and want written, signed or personalised items. Server owners who host roleplay communities can use the lore command to supply in-world paperwork.

How it compares

Full comparison

Big Sign Writer is client-side only and open source under the Mozilla Public License 2.0, covering Fabric, Forge and NeoForge for 1.20 – 26.3, so it is a sign-focused alternative with a wider loader range. Character Kill Roleplay is a Fabric mod for 1.20.1, set to client and server, under the MIT License, and it is open source, so it suits a roleplay server that needs both sides to run the same mod.
