WorldFarView
by Gord1402
WorldFarView extends the render distance of Minecraft Java Edition by loading chunks through a dynamic quad tree structure, and it is open source under the MIT License.
What it does
WorldFarView increases the render distance by organizing the loaded chunks in a dynamic quad tree, so distant terrain can be drawn without the usual per-chunk cost. The mod activates automatically once a player joins a world, and it works on both the client and the server, so both sides need it installed. Server and client settings are compared when a player connects. If the server rejects a client setting, for example a resolution it does not support, the mod disables itself for that session.
The server does not send every chunk. It sends only the heights at the points the client asks for, and the server-side part of the mod supports only noise-based chunk generators that are vanilla-compatible. A FarChunkGenerator can be implemented and registered by other mods to fit that requirement. Higher resolutions take longer to load, and the mod reports compatibility issues when they arise. Its design is inspired by the FarPlane2 mod, which also enhances render distance using quad trees. The most recent update removed quad tree generation and added server memory optimizations.
Iris Shaders, Mod Menu and Oculus are optional dependencies. WorldFarView is published for Fabric, Forge and NeoForge, with files for 1.20.1 and 1.21.1, and the latest files are 2.0 builds in the beta channel.
Key features
Quad tree render distance
Chunks are arranged in a dynamic quad tree, which lets the render distance grow beyond the vanilla limit.
Automatic activation
The mod turns on by itself when a player joins a world, so no separate setup step is needed.
Server height data
The server sends only the heights at the points the client requests, instead of full chunk data.
Custom chunk generators
A FarChunkGenerator can be implemented and registered, letting other mods support the feature with their own generators.
Setting validation
The server checks client settings, and an unsupported resolution causes the mod to disable itself.
