WhatIsInThatShelf

by official.andy

Shelf contents can be read from the HUD, so no inventory needs to be opened: WhatIsInThatShelf shows the items inside a shelf block as a tooltip.

FabricClient-side onlyAll rights reserved1.21.9 – 26.3

What it does

When a player looks at a shelf block, WhatIsInThatShelf draws a tooltip listing the items in its slots, so their contents can be checked without opening the inventory. The tooltip can show one, two or all three shelf slots at once, and each slot can be stacked vertically or spread across the screen with a gap slider. A scale slider running from 0.25x to 3.0x resizes the tooltip, and settings changes appear live on the HUD while the sliders are moved.

The position can be set to the bottom-middle of the screen, which is preconfigured with a margin so the tooltip sits above the experience bar and hotbar. When the chat window is open, the tooltip moves to the top of the screen so it does not cover the text being typed. The mod is installed on the client only, and it requires Fabric API on Fabric for 26.3 and the other game versions listed for it.

Key features

  1. Three-slot display

Triple Mode shows the contents of all three shelf slots in one tooltip, so each item can be read at a glance.

  2. Adjustable spacing

A slider for spacing controls how far apart the three tooltips sit, and they can be kept in a column or placed further apart.

  3. Live HUD preview

Settings changes appear on the HUD while the sliders are moved, so the result is seen before the menu is closed.

  4. Chat-aware placement

With the bottom position selected, the tooltip moves to the top of the screen whenever the chat bar is open.

  5. Data toggles

The item attributes, potion effects, mod names and deeper technical readouts in a tooltip are each individually switchable.

Clientify is client-side only, open source under the GNU General Public License v3.0 only and published for 1.21.11 – 26.3, so it has a different focus from this mod's shelf tooltip. Clean Armor HUD is also client-side only and open source under the Apache License 2.0, with files for 1.21 – 26.3, and it shows armor information rather than shelf contents. Lower Shelves is the one alternative that runs on the server, is not open source under the MIT License and covers 1.21.10 – 26.3.
