Wandering Spoils

by zsvan

Wandering Spoils changes what a Wandering Trader leaves behind when it dies, so killing one yields its stock instead of nothing.

ForgeNeoForgeClient and serverGNU General Public License v3.0 onlyOpen source1.20.1 – 1.21.8

What it does

When a Wandering Trader dies, the mod drops the items it had for sale, letting players recover trade stock they would otherwise lose. Each item type has its own drop chance, so a server can make some goods rare and others common. Emerald bonuses add extra emeralds to the loot as well.

The behavior is controlled by a gamerule that can be enabled or disabled per world, and it is on by default. Worlds that do not want the change can turn it off without removing the mod. Because the mod only alters the trader's death drops, the rest of the trading system keeps working as it did before.

Wandering Spoils is for Forge and NeoForge on 1.20.1, 1.21.1, 1.21.4 and 1.21.8, released as 1.0.0 on 2025-11-07. Client and server both need it, so every player and the server run the same build. It is open source under the GNU General Public License v3.0 only, with source code and an issue tracker published.

Key features

  1. Trader stock drops

Items a Wandering Trader has for sale are dropped when it dies, instead of disappearing with the trader.

  2. Per-item drop chance

Each item has a separate chance to drop, so a server can tune how often specific trade goods appear.

  3. Emerald bonuses

Additional emeralds are added to the death loot, giving players a return from defeating a trader.

  4. Gamerule toggle

A gamerule turns the stock drop on or off for each world, and it is enabled by default.
