Vercte's Satchels

by Vercte

Vercte's Satchels adds satchel items that group inventory slots on a NeoForge 1.21.1 game, so players can keep building and crafting tools close to hand.

What it does

A satchel is an item that opens a container and takes up space in the hotbar. Items placed in a satchel leave the hotbar free for tools and building blocks. A toggle key switches the satchel slot on and off, and holding shift with a hotbar key swaps the satchel into the hotbar. Vanilla container screens work with the satchel, and an animation plays when the satchel opens, with exclusion zones that push ingredients away from the open panel.

The mod targets survival play where the hotbar runs out of room during long building or crafting sessions. Installation covers the server and each player's game. Files are published for NeoForge only, for 1.21.1, and the latest file is 1.2.0. The Curios API is optional and lets the satchel occupy a curios slot instead of the vanilla slot. The author recommends pairing it with the Vanilla Backport bundles mod. Satchels are dyeable, and the author leaves the look for players to find.

Key features

  1. Satchel hotbar slot

A satchel sits in the hotbar and holds a set of stacks, with a key that toggles its slot on and off.

  2. Swap with shift and hotbar keys

Holding shift while pressing a hotbar key moves the satchel into that hotbar position.

  3. Dyeable satchels

Satchels can be dyed, which changes their appearance without affecting their storage.

  4. Configurable controls and settings

Controls are set in a menu, and common and client config files cover the remaining options.

Use cases

Building sessions

Players keep building blocks and tools in a satchel so the hotbar stays free while working on a base.

Who it’s for: Players who run short of hotbar space during building, crafting or other tasks, and server owners who want a satchel layout shared across the group.

What the author says

This can be very useful! Use it to store extra building blocks, tools, clean up your main hotbar, or just use it as an inventory extension—because it is one. The Satchel also integrates itself seamlessly into vanilla container UIs, as well as working with Modded UIs. 2 I made this mod because I always run out of…
