VanillaMaps
by webdent
VanillaMaps lets players draw, generate and edit in-game map items on a 128x128 pixel grid, and a server player needs it installed to use them.
What it does
Maps can be made without uploading any image from the internet. A custom map generator produces the picture inside the game, and a Map Drawing screen lets a player paint each map pixel by pixel on the 128x128 grid. Drawn maps can be saved and reopened later, so a player can return to a map and adjust it instead of starting over. Background generation such as noise or checkerboard patterns gives a base to draw on.
The palette offers 44 colours in 132 shades. Drawing tools include fill, rectangle, line and undo, and a text tool places written words on a map. Maps can be copied and pasted to duplicate them without keeping the same map ID, which suits servers that hand out the same design to many players.
The mod is published for Fabric only, with Paper listed as a server platform. The server must run it, and players need it too. It is released under a custom license and is not open source, and source code is public. Files cover 1.21 – 26.2 across 16 release versions, and the latest Fabric file is 1.2b1 for 26.1.2.
Key features
Custom map generator
Map pictures are created inside the game, so no image has to come from outside Minecraft.
Pixel-based drawing screen
A drawing GUI lets a player paint directly on the 128x128 map grid with a simple interface.
Saved and editable maps
Finished maps can be saved and reopened, and adjusted at any later time.
Copy and paste
Maps can be duplicated by copy and paste, keeping the design without reusing the original map ID.
Text and background tools
A text tool writes words on a map, and background options such as noise or checkerboard set a starting surface.

Use cases
Server map events
Server owners can hand out custom maps made with the drawing and generation tools to players.
Who it’s for: Players who want to create their own map art, and server owners who give custom maps to their players.
How it compares
Show My Maps is open source under the MIT License and is a client mod that requires Fabric, so the client needs it while the server may skip it. Remapped also uses the MIT License and is open source, and runs on client and server, so both sides need it. Sivage is open source under the European Union Public License 1.2 but is server-side only, so players can join without installing it.
