Universal Item Tags

by Smileycorp

Universal Item Tags adds item tags automatically, by checking whether each item meets a set of conditions.

ForgeNeoForgeServer-side onlyGNU Lesser General Public License v2.1 onlyOpen source1.19 – 1.20.2

What it does

Items that match a condition receive a tag, and the check also covers items added by other mods. The tag groups cover brewing ingredients, furnace fuels, redstone components, items with durability, items with a stack size of 1, edible items, potion types, and items that place blocks. Pack developers can use these tags when writing recipes, without listing each item by hand.

Most of the mod's use comes alongside sorting systems in other mods, such as the logistical sorters in Mekanism, which filter by tag. A config file lets server owners disable tag groups or set item whitelists and blacklists for them.

Installation needs only the server. Clients do not need the mod unless the server runs it as part of a modpack. Universal Item Tags is released under the GNU Lesser General Public License v2.1 only, is open source, and is published for Forge and NeoForge across 8 release versions, from 1.19 up to 1.20.2.

Key features

  1. Automatic item tagging

Items are tagged as they are loaded, so new items from mods are sorted without manual entries.

  2. Condition-based groups

Groups cover brewing ingredients, furnace fuels, redstone components, edible items and potion types.

  3. Config whitelists and blacklists

Tag groups can be disabled, and individual items can be allowed or excluded in the config file.

  4. Sorting system support

Tags let item sorters in other mods, such as Mekanism's logistical sorters, filter by item type.

Use cases

Modpack recipe writing

Pack developers can write recipes against a shared tag instead of listing every item that qualifies.

Automated item sorting

Server owners can point sorting blocks from other mods at these tags to route items by category.

Who it’s for: Modpack developers and server owners who run item sorting or recipe systems on a server. Players on clients that do not join a modpack do not need the mod.

What the author says

Automatically detects items that meet various conditions and adds tags to them, including ones added by mods. Made primarily for use with other mods sorting systems, such as the Mekanism logistical sorters but may also be useful for pack devs adding recipes.
