Trinkery

by lullaby

Trinkery adds trinkets that players wear in trinket slots, with 35 trinkets in four rarity tiers and 140 variants in total.

What it does

Each trinket is passive and carries a chance-based effect rather than a certain one, so it reacts to events like being struck, scoring a kill, drawing a bow, sneaking or falling. Higher rarity tiers roll more often, last longer, hit harder and cool down faster. Players can carry several trinkets at once and combine them to match a play style.

The trinkets fall into offensive and defensive groups. Offensive ones can ignite enemies, poison them, wither them, call evoker fangs, ensnare them in cobwebs or strike with a lightning bolt. Defensive ones grant resistance and regeneration, or keep the player alive with a chance to survive a death. The mod also adds Mimics, mobs disguised as chests and heads, which can be hunted for a trinket. Their natural spawning and removal can be toggled in the config, and the config menu opens with the function trinkery:config.

Trinkery is required on the server and optional on the client, so players may join without installing it. It is released under the GNU Affero General Public License v3.0 or later and is open source. Files are published for Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt, for 26.2 and 26.3, with 1.2.2+mod for 26.3 as the latest file. The mod also runs as a data pack for server platforms.

Key features

  1. Passive chance-based trinkets

Trinkets react to events and roll a chance to proc, so their effects feel like lucky triggers rather than reliable bonuses.

  2. Four rarity tiers

Higher tiers proc more often, last longer, hit harder and recharge faster across the 35 trinkets.

  3. Offensive effects

Trinkets can ignite enemies, poison them, wither them, call evoker fangs, ensnare them in cobwebs or strike with a lightning bolt.

  4. Defensive effects

Some trinkets grant resistance and regeneration, erupt fangs around the player, slow falling or keep the player alive through a fatal hit.

  5. Mimic spawning and removal

Mimics can spawn naturally, which is enabled by default, and the config can turn that off or remove existing mimics from the world.

Questions

Does Trinkery need to be installed on the server?

Yes. The server must run the mod, while players may join without installing it on their side.

Which loaders can run Trinkery?

Fabric, Forge, NeoForge and Quilt all have files for 26.2 and 26.3. The data pack version suits server platforms.

How are the trinket effects chosen?

Each trinket rolls a chance to trigger when its event happens, and the tier raises that chance along with the duration and strength of the effect.

What the author says

Hunt down Mimics — mobs disguised with a chest on their head — and kill them to claim a trinket. Trinkets are passive: just carry one in your inventory and it works. Each one reacts to something you do — taking a hit, landing a kill, shooting a bow, sneaking, falling — and most trigger on a chance roll, so they feel…
