Tool Mapper

by Limon4ik_lol

Tool Mapper selects the tool, weapon or ranged item from the hotbar or full inventory that suits what the crosshair is pointing at.

FabricNeoForgeClient-side onlyAll rights reserved1.21.1

What it does

When a player looks at a stone block, the mod switches to a pickaxe suited to it; when a zombie is in view, it picks the sword with the highest damage, counting Smite enchantments. A spider up close brings out a weapon suited to Bane of Arthropods, and a distant enemy prompts a switch to a bow or crossbow. The search covers the full inventory, and an item found outside the hotbar is moved into a free slot when needed.

A small icon appears above the crosshair, previewing which item will be selected before any key is pressed. Behaviour is adjustable through a simple JSON config file, including durability thresholds, the ranged switch distance, shield handling, enchantment detection, HUD visibility and the search options. An optional auto mode changes tools without any input.

Tool Mapper is client-side only, so servers run without it and only the player who installs it needs it. It requires Fabric API and is published for Fabric and NeoForge, with files for 1.21.1 only. The mod is not open source and is licensed as All rights reserved.

Key features

  1. Target-based selection

The selected tool or weapon changes according to the block, mob or distance the crosshair is aimed at.

  2. Full inventory search

Items anywhere in the inventory are considered and moved into a free hotbar slot when they are needed.

  3. Enchantment-aware choice

Damage calculation accounts for enchantments such as Smite and Bane of Arthropods when choosing a weapon.

  4. HUD preview

A small icon above the crosshair shows the item that will be selected before any key is pressed.

  5. JSON configuration

Durability thresholds, ranged switch distance, HUD visibility and other behaviour are set in a simple JSON file.

What the author says

Tool Mapper is a quality-of-life mod that automatically selects the best tool or weapon from your inventory based on what your crosshair is pointing at. Point at a stone block — your best pickaxe jumps to hand. Point at a zombie — the mod picks the sword with the highest damage, accounting for Smite enchantments…
