Timestampd

by STS15

Timestampd puts a clock reading on each chat line, so players can see when a message arrived during a session.

NeoForgeClient-side onlyMIT LicenseOpen source1.21 – 1.21.1

What it does

Each chat message receives a timestamp in hh:mm:ss format as it is displayed. The stamp lets a player trace when a line was sent, which helps when following a long conversation or reviewing what was said earlier. Options are adjusted through the in-game configuration screen, and the mod runs as a NeoForge mod.

The mod is client-side only, so a player can install it alone and join any server without it, since it changes no gameplay mechanics. It works with other chat enhancements, leaving chat organized and readable without getting in the way of their additions. The mod is open source under the MIT License, with source code and an issue tracker publicly available.

Timestampd 1.0.0 targets 1.21 and 1.21.1 on NeoForge. Its only file, released 2024-08-14, is built for 1.21.1, and the project was first published and last updated on that same date.

Key features

  1. Automatic timestamps

Every chat message is stamped with its time in hh:mm:ss format without any action from the player.

  2. In-game configuration

Display options can be changed from inside the game through a configuration screen.

  3. Chat mod compatibility

The timestamps sit alongside the output of other chat mods, such as Chat Heads, without replacing their features.

Use cases

Tracking message order

A player reviewing a busy chat can tell when each line arrived, which helps reconstruct the sequence of events.

Reading alongside other chat mods

Players who already use chat enhancements can add timestamps without losing the features those mods provide.

Who it’s for: Players on NeoForge 1.21.1 who want to know when chat messages were sent. Single-player and multiplayer players both benefit, because only the client runs the mod.
