Thermal Vision Goggles
by ZumaDeluxe
Thermal Vision Goggles adds craftable goggles that highlight living entities against a cold blue world, with a battery system and optional Curios integration.
What it does
Players craft the goggles and power them with rechargeable batteries, built from one Redstone Dust and one Iron Ingot in a shapeless recipe. A full charge lasts 60 seconds of active use, and power is drawn only while thermal vision is enabled. Once the battery is depleted the effect switches off until the goggles are recharged. Pressing V toggles thermal vision, and the key can be changed in the Controls settings.
Living entity models are highlighted directly, not surrounded by an old aura effect, out to 96 blocks of detection range, although entities beyond the render distance stay hidden. A cold-world filter warms the colors of nearby luminous blocks and adds a charge HUD and activation sounds. Other players see the goggles being raised and lowered, and the animated 3D goggles are visible on the character.
Thermal Vision Goggles is for Forge on Minecraft 1.20.1 and 1.21.1, with the 5.0 release covering 1.20.1. The mod is licensed under the Apache License 2.0 and is open source, and the source code and issue tracker are public. It requires TaCZ Superb Warfare, and an optional accessory integration works with Curios API, where the build for 1.20.1 targets the 5.x line.
Key features
Model-based highlighting
Living entity models are outlined directly rather than through a surrounding aura effect.
Rechargeable battery
Goggles run for 60 seconds of use per full charge and switch off when the battery is depleted.
Cold-world filter
Luminous blocks near the player glow warm while the rest of the world turns cold blue.
Curios accessory slot
With Curios installed, the goggles go in a head accessory slot next to the helmet, and without it they use the helmet slot.

How it compares
Hardcore Night Vision Goggles and Basic Night Vision Goggles both run on Forge and NeoForge for 1.20.1 – 1.21.1, with All rights reserved licensing and no open source code. Both need both sides installed. Refined Night Vision Goggles covers the same versions under the MIT License, and it works on either side, and neither needs it. Goggles On! is a client-side mod under the MIT License for the same versions, so servers run without it.
