The Abandoned World is a Forge dimension mod that adds a scrap-covered world reached through a portal, with its own mobs, biomes, items and a boss structure.
What it does
The mod adds a dimension that players reach through a portal lit with a Forgotten Lighter, a low-durability tool that works where ordinary flint and steel does not. The portal can be found in caves between roughly y-30 and y-10, in Deep Dark, Frozen Peaks, Jagged Peaks and Stony Peaks biomes, and it leads back to the Overworld entrance. The dimension is described as a land of scrap and decay, where only remnants of forgotten machinery remain and plants and creatures have mutated.
Most of the new items come from slaying the machines of the dimension and looting its chests, and the Power Core is the most important material. Scrap Sword, Survey Scrap Rod, Scrap Reactor and Scrap Gun are crafted from these materials, and the Reactor's explosion is described as about 30 times the power of TNT, so it needs a clear exit plan. A craftable Machine Buddy and a large procedural structure with a boss add to the content. The author suggests using JEI to look up the recipes.
The mod requires Geckolib. Installation is Forge only, for 1.20.1, with the latest file 0.0.3 released on 2025-05-04. It runs on client and server, so the server and every player need it, and it is released under All rights reserved, so it is not open source.
