Tango Web API

by Pankraz01

Tango Web API is a library that gives other mods one shared embedded HTTP server, so each mod can expose its own endpoints and static files without writing its own web layer.

FabricNeoForgeClient or server, optionalMIT License1.21.8 – 1.21.11

What it does

Tango Web API runs a single HTTP server that mods share. A mod registers routes under its own namespace, such as modid/..., and can serve static files from its own folder. The shared server starts and stops with the game, so each mod does not need its own copy of the web code. The library also provides built-in routes at tango-webapi/health, tango-webapi/info and tango-webapi/routes, and it returns simple HTML error pages for 404, 405 and 503 responses.

Host, port and the maximum request size are set through environment or system properties: tango.webapi.host, tango.webapi.port and tango.webapi.max bytes. Files are published for Fabric and NeoForge, for game versions 1.21.8 – 1.21.11. Either side can run Tango Web API, and neither needs it. It is released under the MIT License and is not open source.

Key features

  1. Shared HTTP server

One embedded server handles requests for every mod that uses the library, so dependent mods skip building their own.

  2. Namespaced routes

get, post and registerRoute calls attach endpoints to a mod's own namespace, keeping paths from clashing between mods.

  3. Built-in status routes

Health, info and route listing endpoints are available without extra code, so server owners can check what is running.

  4. Configurable host and limits

Host, port and maximum request size can be changed through environment or system properties.

Use cases

Mod web dashboards

A mod can show its settings or status in a browser page served from its own namespace.

Server status pages

Server owners can query the health and route endpoints to see which mods are answering requests.

Who it’s for: Mod developers who want their mod to expose HTTP endpoints or pages, and server owners who run several mods that use the library.
