Surrounding Indicators

by Modding Legacy

Surrounding Indicators draws health bars above nearby mobs and players on the client, placed in a corner of the screen.

What it does

Within a configurable distance, the mod shows health indicators for mobs and players around the player. Indicators can be placed on the left or right side of the screen, and the starting position on each axis is set in the configuration. A numerical health value can be shown next to each mob name, and team health indicators can be turned on alongside the scoreboard team display. The number of indicators is capped separately for mobs and for teams, with 5 and 7 as the defaults.

The mod also gives custom heart visuals for several mob types, including husks, strays, elder guardians and mounts. It works with mobs added by other mods and displays health for other players in multiplayer. Every option is set in the configuration file, and the author provides a configuration guide alongside the project.

The mod is released for Forge and NeoForge only, and it runs on the client alone. Files exist for 1.19.4 and 26.1.2, with Forge 1.2.2 for 1.19.4 and NeoForge 1.3.0 for 26.1.2 as the latest builds. The code is available publicly, and the license is All rights reserved, so the mod is not open source.

Key features

  1. Mob and player health display

Health indicators appear for mobs and players within the configured distance, with a default range of 7.0 blocks.

  2. Corner placement

Indicators are drawn on the left side by default, and their x and y starting points can be moved in the configuration.

  3. Numerical values

An optional setting shows the numerical health next to each mob name.

  4. Team indicators

Team health can be displayed on the right side of the screen, where the scoreboard team display sits by default.

  5. Custom heart visuals

Husks, strays, elder guardians and mounts get their own heart graphics for health indicators.

Questions

Does Surrounding Indicators need to be installed on the server?

No. Players add it to their own game, and a server needs no copy. Servers run without it, and players can use it on any server.

Which loaders does Surrounding Indicators support?

Forge and NeoForge are the only loaders listed. Builds exist for 1.19.4 and 26.1.2, so a Fabric setup is not covered by this mod.

Can the health indicator layout be changed?

Yes. The configuration file sets the maximum indicator counts, the x and y starting points, the detection distance and the team and player-only options.
