Sounds So Cold

by LudoCrypt

Sounds So Cold, by LudoCrypt, applies a distorted, slowed-down effect to music and common sounds in Minecraft Java Edition 1.19.2 on Quilt.

QuiltClient-side onlyGNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 onlyOpen source1.19.2

What it does

The mod recreates the Cold effect from Undertale, the sound heard during a fight with a certain monster near the end of that game. When it applies, music is pitched down and wobbles, and common sounds such as walking, breaking blocks and biome ambience take on the same treatment, along with Music Discs. A world can also be left to rot, so things get cold.

The effect is tuned through a soundscold.json file, which can be edited directly or changed in game through the mod menu. Options include Vibrato Strength, which sets how subtle the pitch bend is, Resting Pitch, where the unaltered pitch is the baseline, and Pitch Range, which controls how far the pitch varies from Resting Pitch. Minecraft only plays pitches between 0.5 and 2.0, so values below that limit produce no audible difference. A final option decides whether Music Discs are affected.

The mod works with the playsound command as well. The playcold command copies playsound and applies the effect to any sound it plays. Because the effect is applied on the client, a server running the mod sends the effect to any client that has it installed. Sounds So Cold is released under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 only and is open source, with source code and an issue tracker published.

What the author says

When you leave a world to rot... things get cold. This is a recreation of the 'So Cold' effect from Undertale! In Undertale, if you fight a certain monster near the end of the game, music will play, distorted, and slowed down. This mod simply applies that effect to all the music in the game.
