Sodium Shadowy Path Blocks (SSPB)
by Rynnavinx
Sodium Shadowy Path Blocks brings back the dark edge shading that dirt paths and similar partial blocks lose beside a full block under Sodium.
What it does
Sodium removes the dark shading that vanilla applies to non-full, non-fluid blocks such as dirt paths when they touch a full block, treating it as a bug. Sodium Shadowy Path Blocks adds that effect back by extending Sodium's smooth lighting code, so the result is vanilla-like rather than an exact copy unless the vanilla lighting option for path blocks is switched on.
The addon is built on the author's preference for the shadows of vanilla dirt paths, which gave the mod its name. A setting called Shadowyness controls how strong the shading is, from 0 to 100 percent, with 85 percent as the default. When the vanilla lighting option is active, the shading strength has no effect on path blocks. The mod only does anything while smooth lighting is on, and it requires Sodium. It is not associated with Sodium or CaffeineMC.
Client-side only, this addon is published for Fabric, NeoForge and Quilt across 38 release versions, with builds covering 1.16.1 – 26.3, and it is open source under the GNU Lesser General Public License v3.0 only. Source code and an issue tracker are linked from the project.
Key features
Adjustable shadow strength
The Shadowyness setting runs from 0 to 100 percent, so the dark edge on path blocks can be set anywhere in that range.
Vanilla lighting option
Enabling the option to use vanilla lighting for path blocks makes the path blocks render with the original lighting instead of the vanilla-like version.
Smooth lighting only
The shading applies only while smooth lighting is turned on, so it does nothing when smooth lighting is off.
Built on Sodium's lighting code
The effect uses Sodium's smooth lighting code, so it sits alongside the rest of Sodium's rendering.

What the author says
Sodium Shadowy Path Blocks (or SSPB for short) is an addon to Sodium that reintroduces vanilla-like smooth lighting to non-fluid non-full blocks (e.g. dirt paths and how they have dark shading when directly next to a full block), as Sodium removes this (or rather, fixes this, as it's technically a bug). This was…
