SlowMo Lib

by TheMegax

SlowMo Lib lets a Fabric library change the tick rate of the server and the client independently, so time can run faster or slower than the hardcoded 20 ticks per second.

FabricClient and serverGNU Affero General Public License v3.0 onlyOpen source1.19 – 1.19.2

What it does

The library gives other mods and players control over time. It can slow or speed up everything in the world, only the player's own speed, only the world's speed, or a combination of the two. Its tick rate settings apply to the server and the client separately, which lets each side run at its own speed.

The author describes the library as a way to bypass the hardcoded 20 ticks per second rate and modify it as needed. Per the author, it reaches into both the server and the client and includes a number of graphical and gameplay fixes related to changed time. The mod runs on client and server, so both sides need it. Files are published for Fabric only, for 1.19 – 1.19.2, and it requires Fabric API.

Key features

  1. Global time control

Everything in the world can be made to run faster or slower, which covers the whole tick loop rather than one system.

  2. Player-only speed

Only the player's own speed changes, so the rest of the world keeps its normal pace.

  3. World-only speed

Only the world's speed changes, leaving the player moving at the usual rate.

  4. Independent server and client rates

The server and the client each hold their own tick rate, so the two sides can run at different speeds.

Use cases

Dramatic scenes

Map makers can slow the world to build cinematic moments, such as a slow-motion fight or a staged event.

Test farms

Builders of farms and machines can speed up or slow down the world to test how a design behaves over many ticks.

Creative playthroughs

Players who want an unusual playthrough can pick a different pace for themselves or the world.

Who it’s for: Mod developers who need to change the tick rate, map makers building timed scenes, and server owners who want to experiment with time. The author notes the mod is also meant for players who want a different pace in creative playthroughs.
